The Original Crab Shanty on City Island, NY

If you couldn’t tell by now I love seafood. One way or another I am always looking for some great seafood to try. I love City Island in the Bronx, NY and try to go there whenever I get the opportunity as City Island has a host of restaurants. A friend of mine recommended that I try The Original Crab Shanty, so when I got the opportunity to go I took it.

Driving down City Island Ave. you can’t help, but notice all the restaurants. I have some go to ones and was hoping that this recommendation would end up on list as well. As we pulled up to the parking lot the valet took the car. As we walked in I noticed there was a barrel of apples. Above the barrel was a sign stating “One apple per customer.” I made sure to take one before I left.

As we sat down in a good sized booth, I realized that it certainly was a shanty as it wasn’t that big. I could foresee a long wait on a weekend or busy night due to size. For a normal day it was very quaint and had a nice atmosphere. The menu was in the shape of a crab, which I thought was cute.

The prices reminded me of another restaurant in the area and I already knew the portions would be a big. We had just missed the lunch specials and so had to order from the regular menu. It took some time to decide what to order as there were so many amazing things to choose from. It also didn’t help seeing the people in the booth across with all of their amazing looking food spread across the table.

After a lot of back and fourth I decided to get the filet mignon and jumbo shrimp combo. All entrees come with soup or choice of house salad, a choice of a baked potato, french fries, or linguine, and garlic bread. I saw a sign on the table that read I could add certain things to my order for a small additional price. So I ordered the New England Clam Chowder, I opted for rice rather than the above, and added a lobster tail.

The food was amazing! Onion rings also came on top of my filet mignon and some cole slaw was also on the plate. I was so full and I couldn’t help but to continue eating the filet mignon. It was so delicious that I didn’t mind making myself miserable with every bite. I just closed my eyes and enjoyed it.

As I figured, I had enough to take home with me for another meal and I was pretty happy about that! The food was so good that having leftovers was a great thing! Even the leftovers that I ate the following day still tasted extremely delicious. For those allergic to or don’t like seafood they have items on the menu just for you.

So if you are ever able to head to City Island in the Bronx, I highly suggest The Original Crab Shanty! You will not be disappointed! I am very happy my friend recommended this restaurant and I look forward to the next time I am able to go. (361 City Island Ave. Bronx, NY)
